Opportune LLP was engaged by a Fortune 50 independent refining and marketing downstream company (“the Company”) to advise on a build vs. buy analysis, software selection, and subsequent implementation project for an enhanced energy trading and risk management (ETRM) technology capability. The Company is an international manufacturer and marketer of gasoline, distillates, jet fuel, asphalt, petrochemicals, lubricants, other refined products, as well as biofuels.
The scope of services performed for the client by Opportune’s professionals included:
- Gathered requirements and developed a gap analysis vs. commercially available ETRM systems.
- Conducted a build vs. buy analysis and software selection based on requirements gathered.
- Designed, developed, and implemented physical trading and risk management solution based upon the TriplePoint CXL platform.
- Managed a complex integration scenario of over 30 interfaces to SAP and logistics systems, as well as external sources.
As a result of the TriplePoint CXL platform implementation, the client was able to retire a 10-year-old, custom position management system and replace it with commercially available and supported trading and risk software. In addition to the legacy solution retirement benefits, the new integrated solution set enabled enhanced reporting and analytics, including forwarding P&L, trader performance measurement, estimate-to-actual comparison, and improved trading-to-accounting P&L reconciliation while also streamlining the deal-entry process.
